The Roxborough Micro Enterprise Loan (MEL) Facility is a community empowerment initiative which equips Community Based Organization to play an active role in promoting sustainable livelihoods among the poor in their communities.

The establishment of the Roxborough MEL Facility recognizes that many persons with business potential fail to establish micro businesses due to:

• Harsh loan conditions which apply to some loan facilities.

• Fear, coupled with lack of support and "handholding".

The Roxborough MEL Facility creates a window of opportunity for such persons with a business loan facility in a professional, personalized and supportive atmosphere, literally at their "doorsteps".

WHAT IS ROXBOROUGH MEL?

The Roxborough Micro Enterprise Loan (MEL) Facility is a community empowerment initiative which equips Community Based Organization to play an active role in promoting sustainable livelihoods among the poor in their communities.

The Roxborough MEL Facility is run by Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and seeks to serve the community in which the CBO resides. Members of the Community Based Organizations are provided with training and expert support to assist in:

• The overall management of an on-lending fund

• The assessment of business plans

• The approval and disbursement of loans to residents, and

• The provision of ongoing support to community-based borrowers.

How Roxborough MEL Works?

• Roxborough MEL provides borrowers with

• Community- based business loan services

• Business training for all interested persons

• After loan services and business support

Benefits of Roxborough MEL

Who can access Roxborough MEL?

• Persons 18 years and over

• Persons in receipt of public assistance and other forms of social support

• Persons earning at subsistence level or at the minimum wage

• Unemployed persons who exist in conditions as above.

The success of the Micro Credit Programme has developed over 700 applicants which is responsible for the establishment of several Micro-Enterprise within the community of Tobago, which has now forced the stakeholders towards the consideration in establishing a credit union. The Roxborough Micro Credit Union is Presently awaiting its registration status from the Commissioner of Cooperatives and is soon to open its doors as a financial institution in 2026 in the community of Roxborough.
