ABOUT US
The Roxborough Early Childhood Centre was established on 10th September, 1990 by the Windward Youth Council to provide quality preschool education to students in Windward, Tobago. Originally situated at Warner's Building, Robert Street, Roxborough, the school began it journey with fourteen students and three dedicated educators.
Our journey: Navigating challenges and growth
As a result of the increasing school population, during the fifth year of establishment, the center was relocated to the Windward Youth Council Building at Roxborough Court Yard, Roxborough, Tobago. Despite the convenience, this location presented issues such as limited space, sea erosion, and a lack of play areas. The hard-working, dedicated and voluntary school board under the chairmanship of Mrs. Cynthia Frederick, successful negotiated with the Tobago House of Assembly and was provided with a parcel of land located at Bloody Bay Road, Roxborough adjacent to the Roxborough Library.
Under the construction of Pre-School by the government. The Roxborough Early Childhood was constructed at the new school site in 2001 and formally opened its doors to sixty five students and four
trained teachers under the Ministry of Education/ Servol Operation. The joy of a new school environment with increase facility, excellent play area and dedicated staff, was short lived, as the school was destroyed by fire in 2007.
The centre continues to develop children, preparing them with sound knowledge for entrance in primary school.
Resilience in adversity: A swift recovery
The set back of this fire did not hinder the operations of the school by one day, since the school was operational the following day at the Roxborough Police Youth Club conference room after consultation with the management of the club.
Today the school continues to be operational under the management of the Roxborough Police Youth Club, having six highly trained educators and one OJT trainee.
